In short: Kinstride turns your walks into a journey. Your exact route never leaves your phone (only an approximate area, for parks and weather). Your steps stay on your phone unless you join a Company, and then only your kilometres per day are shared with its members. No ads, no selling data, no tracking.
Who is responsible
Kinstride is developed in Chile by an independent developer. For any privacy question, write to lince.revision@gmail.com.
Your height
When you start, Kinstride asks your height to understand whether your stride is short or long for you. It is stored only on your phone.
Location (expeditions)
Kinstride uses your location only while an expedition is running, which you start and end yourself. While it runs, a notification stays visible ("Expedition under way") so it can keep measuring with the screen off. Kinstride does not use your location in the background at any other time. Swims and rows read from Health Connect stay on your phone. Journey news are scheduled on your phone and never go through a server. You can turn them off in Settings.
From the GPS points it calculates distance, time, pace, pauses and climb. The points themselves are kept only in memory during the expedition and are discarded at the end: your route is never saved and never sent anywhere. Only the summary (kilometres, minutes, steps, metres climbed) is stored on your phone.
At the end of an expedition Kinstride sends an approximate area (never the route) to two free public services:
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass): a rectangle around your walk, rounded to a grid of about 1 km, to get the parks and nature areas nearby. Your phone then calculates what part of the walk went through them; only that percentage is stored. To ask OpenStreetMap only once per area, Kinstride also looks up those squares of about 2 km in its own cache on Supabase, and saves the public park shapes there. The cache holds no account, name or walk.
- Open-Meteo: your starting point rounded to about 11 km, to get the temperature and whether it was raining.
Neither service receives your name, an account or your route. These results feed some classes and lineage variants.
Steps, distance and walks from your watch (Health Connect)
If you allow it, Kinstride reads from Health Connect your steps and distance per day, and your exercise sessions (only walks, runs, hikes and bike rides, for example from your watch) with their elevation gained, starting on the day you began your journey and for the last 30 days at most. It does not read any other health data and never writes to Health Connect.
To find walks in your day, Kinstride also reads when your steps were recorded over the last 28 days. Only the start time, length, steps and an estimate of the distance of each walk it finds stay on your phone. These walks shape your class and, until you have a measured outing, a provisional lineage.
If you also allow reading in the background, the Kinstride widget reads today’s steps and distance about every 30 minutes with the app closed, only to show them on your home screen. They stay on your phone and are not sent anywhere. You can remove this permission at any time in Health Connect.
- Use: to move your marker along the map, reach camps, level up and estimate the lineage your walking resembles.
- Storage: daily totals and a summary of each walk or run (distance, time, steps, climb) on your phone; never the route. If you join a Company, your kilometres per day (not your steps) are sent to it.
- Kinstride does not use this data for advertising, does not sell it and does not share it with anyone else.
- You can remove the permission at any time in Health Connect (Kinstride › Settings › Open Health Connect).
The use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Companies
A Company lets up to 9 friends move one marker together. To use it, Kinstride creates an anonymous account on this phone: no email, no password, no name from your Google account. The Company stores: the name you choose to show, your lineage, your level, your character sheet (class, abilities, equipped item, total distance and camps), your kilometres per day since you joined, and the start and end time of your outings (not where), to know when members walked together. Only members of the same Company can see them. It is stored with Supabase, our provider, over an encrypted connection.
Purchases
Kinstride Pro is purchased through Google Play; we never see your card. To know what you bought we use RevenueCat, which receives the purchase information (product, date and status) linked to an identifier of this app.
Children
Kinstride is not directed at children under 13.
Deleting your data
Everything on your phone is deleted when you uninstall the app. To delete what is stored for Companies, see Delete your data.
This website
This website counts visits with Umami: pages viewed, the site you came from, country, device type and clicks on the tester links and the walking test. The answers to that test stay in your browser: we only count that it was used and which lineage it gave. It uses no cookies, and we use these totals only to see how people find Kinstride. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, your visit is not counted. This applies to the website only: the app sends nothing to Umami.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date.
